Single Loose Wire Caused Dali’s Catastrophic Bridge Strike, NTSB Concludes
What the Investigation Found?
The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) determined that a single loose signal wire aboard the container ship Dali led to a loss of electrical power just before it struck Baltimore’s Francis Scott Key Bridge on March 26, 2024.
That loose wire caused a breaker to trip, triggering the first blackout.
Consequences of the Power Failures
Loss of propulsion and steering: Because of the blackouts, the Dali lost both its ability to maneuver and maintain thrust.
The bridge collision resulted in the collapse of the Key Bridge, leading to the death of six construction workers.
