Sanctioned Tankers Load Venezuelan Oil Despite US Pressure

What’s Happened?

At least half a dozen tankers flagged under sanctions loaded Venezuelan crude and departed from Venezuelan ports in recent days, even as the U.S. government escalates pressure on Caracas and its oil exports.

These vessels sailed since mid-December amid an intensified U.S. campaign to curb Venezuela’s oil revenue, which included seizing sanctioned tankers and pursuing others tied to Venezuela’s “shadow fleet.”

Why It Matters?

The departures show that U.S. pressure has not completely halted Venezuelan oil exports, as sanctioned tankers exploit regulatory gaps and maritime enforcement limits.

Although Venezuela accounts for a relatively small slice of global crude supply, continued loading of tankers helps keep revenue flowing to Caracas, undermining U.S. efforts to squeeze the regime economically.
