Canada Completes First Phase of Historic LNG Export Facility

What Happened?

The LNG Canada project in Kitimat, British Columbia has successfully completed Phase 1 — with the commissioning of its second processing “train” (Train 2).

The facility’s first cargo of liquefied natural gas (LNG) departed on June 30, 2025 — officially marking Canada’s entry into large-scale global LNG exports.

Why It Matters?

Canada Joins Global LNG Exporters —

With LNG Canada operational, Canada becomes a full-fledged player in the international LNG market, able to supply global demand beyond its traditional pipeline exports to the U.S.

Strategic for Asia & Pacific Markets

Kitimat’s west-coast location offers shorter shipping routes to Asia compared with Gulf-of-Mexico terminals, improving competitiveness and supply flexibility for Asian buyers.
