Turbine Installation Begins at Coastal Virginia Offshore Wind Farm After Court Lifts Federal Halt

What Happened?

After a federal judge lifted a Trump-era stop-work order, crews have begun installing the first permanent wind turbine tower at the Coastal Virginia Offshore Wind (CVOW) Farm, the largest offshore wind project in the United States.

The turbine was erected about 27 miles off the coast of Virginia Beach by the U.S.-flagged installation vessel Charybdis.

Why It Matters?

This project is currently the largest offshore wind initiative in the country, and advancing installation reinforces momentum for U.S. clean energy infrastructure after months of regulatory uncertainty.

CVOW is expected to begin generating power in the first quarter of 2026, adding reliable, low-carbon electricity to the grid and supporting Virginia’s growing demand — including data centers and military installations.
