U.S. President Donald Trump declared on social media that “there will be no more Venezuelan oil or money going to Cuba — ZERO!” and urged Havana to “make a deal with the United States before it is too late.
His message came amid broader U.S. pressure linked to its recent actions against Venezuelan leadership and oil exports.
Cuba has long depended on heavily subsidized Venezuelan oil, which historically covered roughly half of its energy needs.
The interruption of that supply — amid an ongoing U.S. oil blockade on Venezuela — threatens severe energy shortages on the island.
