Stena Line will acquire NLC Ferry Ab Oy (operating under the brand Wasaline) and take over operations of the ferry route between Umeå (Sweden) and Vaasa (Finland), which is currently jointly owned by the two municipalities through Kvarken Link.
The hybrid ferry Aurora Botnia, powered by biogas and batteries and operated by Wasaline, will remain owned by Kvarken Link, while Stena Line assumes operational control.
Stena Line strengthens its position as a frontrunner in green maritime operations by leveraging Wasaline’s advanced environmental credentials.
The Umeå–Vaasa route is strategically important for freight, passenger transport and intermodal links across the Kvarken region, enhancing resilience and regional infrastructure.
